The Bonny Method of Guided Imagery with Music is a form of psychotherapy in which music becomes a catalyst for change. This work uses an expanded mind state that opens to perceptions and awareness underlying the client's waking state of living. The music evokes insights and releases stuck emotion. The process leads to a core integration of the body, mind and spirit.
The philosophy believes that the answers lie within. The process allows us to contact our inner healer and gain truthful information through metaphor and symbolic images. Our intuition is activated and we become attuned with our senses.
The Bonny Method is build upon the work of Carl Jung, Stanislav Grof and other transpersonal psychologists. It has been proven to provide an accelerated movement through the therapy process. The music touches places that words cannot reach and often finds the root of the issue.
This method is very effective in healing trauma because it can access and release hidden memories. The honesty of the work prevents a client from "talking round an issue". Troubles are uncovered, processed and released in a supportive and efficient manner.
The pre-session involves the client setting an intention for his "journey". Music is chosen based upon that intention and other individually based criteria.
The heart of the session requires that the client settles down into a deep state of relaxation before listening to the music. He then dialogues with the therapist as the music plays.
The client often draws a mandala in the post-session before the work is processed.
